It may seem that the purpose of spiritual practice is to “change you” — make you into something other than you are now. In fact, the purpose is to reveal the full glory of who you are: A bright facet of the illimitable Divine Presence. Spiritual practice removes limitations, frees you from the “eight fetters,” and opens the “conduit of Divine Power” (Vivekananda) that lies behind what you probably believe yourself to be, now. “Thou Art That” is not an intellectual formulation, Vivekananda says; it is the precise truth that is hidden behind our current, limited view of who we are.
