[/jbox] Renunciation is not an austerity, it is a deliberate move toward greater freedom. So why is it hard to truly renounce anything, even mentally? Swami Ranganathananda, in his book Divine Grace, writes: “… When (you) have developed strength, self-reliance and fearlessness, and built up your individuality, based on your humanized ego and in the human context of society and its interactions … Sri Krishna will whisper gently to you: ‘Renounce and surrender all that developed ego to Me, the One Divine Self that dwells in all men and in all nature!’” (P. 16) Br. Shankara discusses these thoughts, and what you can do to develop the attributes needed to hear Sri Krishna’s invitation, and accept it. |
